What is in flight testing?
Flight testing is a method to gather information, called data, which will describe how a particular vehicle will perform. The data obtained from flight tests are then used to design future vehicles. In flight testing various motions, called maneuvers, are used to obtain this data.
What is aircraft ground testing?
Ground testing is mandatory for a new aircraft design or an aircraft that has undergone significant structural modification. Ground testing encompasses flight loads simulation, material static and fatigue, structural dynamics, modal analysis, airborne and structure borne acoustics and more.
What do you need to know about flight testing?
This course provides individuals with the knowledge required to plan, conduct, and report on flight testing as outlined in Department of Defense directives. Using a case-study method, you will learn about test planning, formulating test objectives, understanding system parameters, test process, test execution, and more to apply in the field.
When is a function not required for safety of flight?
Though the definition is somewhat circular, it is usually clear when a function is not critical, not required for safety of flight. For example, a Terrain Awareness and Warning System (TAWS) is not required to be installed, therefore, it’s function would not be part of the SOF testing.
When to use FAA flight test briefing guide?
In addition, the FAA Flight Test Briefing Guide described in Appendix 1 of Order 4040.26 must be used prior to each flight or sequence of flights as appropriate unless an applicant’s company briefing guide is deemed to be more appropriate.
When does a company need a flight test organisation?
The broader company should develop a SMS; Part-21 requires that the flight test organisation develop an SMS. Where a company SMS exists, the flight test organisation should be integrated with the company SMS.
