What is IQ file?
An iq-tar file contains I/Q data in binary format together with meta information that describes the nature and the source of data, e.g. the sample rate. In addition, the file format allows you to preview the I/Q data in a web browser, and allows you to include user-specific data.
What does IQ stand for?

IQ stands for intelligence quotient and, in short, it is a measure of a person’s reasoning ability. In other words, an IQ test is supposed to gauge how well someone can use information and logic to answer questions or make predictions.
How does a modulator work?
Modulation is what takes a signal from low frequencies (the message) and pulls it up to a higher frequency (the carrier). The idea is simple: Multiply your message by a high frequency carrier, such as 680 kHz. Voila, that’s AM radio!
Why is I / Q more frequently used in SDR?
The reason I/Q is more frequently used is that it’s simpler. If you want an SDR with 50 MHz bandwidth, you can do that with a single 100 MHz ADC as you describe, or two 50 MHz ADCs and I/Q sampling. Either way, it’s 100 million samples per second, so the ADC complexity is essentially the same.
What is the difference between quadrature and I / Q modulation?
The term “quadrature modulation” refers to modulation that is based on the summation of two signals that are in quadrature. In other words, it is I/Q-signal-based modulation.
Which is correct I / Q signal or quadrature signal?
The term “I/Q” is an abbreviation for “in-phase” and “quadrature.”. Unfortunately, we already have a terminology problem. First of all, “in-phase” and “quadrature” have no meaning on their own; phase is relative, and something can only be “in phase” or “out of phase” with reference to another signal or an established reference point.
Which is narrower an IQ signal or an SDR signal?
Also note that the waterfall bandwidth of an SDR IQ signal, which might seem wide-band, is typically slightly narrower than the IQ or complex sample rate, even though the pre-complex-heterodyne center frequency might be much higher than the IQ sample rate.
