What is it called when you leave a heading alone at the end of the page?
Lonely headings like these are sometimes called orphans in typesetting. An orphan can also mean the first line of a paragraph that’s left all alone at the bottom of a page. When the last line of a paragraph appears by itself at the top of the page, typesetters may refer to it as a widow.
How do you stop hanging headings?
To prevent this from happening, right click on the heading, then left click “Paragraph.” Left click “Line and Page Breaks,” and then left click “Keep with Next.” Now the heading, if it appears at the bottom of the page, will automatically wrap to the next page and stay with the ensuing paragraph.
Where is keep with next?

Why does my header keep changing in Word?
Since your document has more than one section, if you want to keep header/footer content separate, you will also have to turn off “Link to Previous” for both the first page and the main page header (and similarly for footers).
How to unlink the first page header in a section?
Thanks for your feedback. Access the First Page Header in Section 1 and then click on Next in the Navigation section of the Header & Footer Tools>Design tab of the ribbon and then click on the Link to Previous button to unlink that Header from that in the previous section.
Where is the heading of a new section?
I am working on my thesis and I keep running into a very annoying issue. The heading of a new section is located on the bottom of the page, and all the content of that section is located on the next page.
Go to Layout > Breaks > Next Page to create a section break. Double-click the header or footer area to open the Header & Footer tab. Select Link to Previous to turn off the link between the sections. Select Header or Footer and do one of the following: Choose Remove Header or Remove Footer . Add or change the content in the header or footer.
Why do my headings stay on the same page?
Until now, I always had to check the document before printing to make sure that no headings were alone on the last line of the page, with its accompanying paragraph on the next page. It did not take much time to fix the problems, but it was a pain to re-paginate the report if I made future edits.
