What is meant by parity flag?
In computer processors the parity flag indicates if the numbers of set bits is odd or even in the binary representation of the result of the last operation. It is normally a single bit in a processor status register. For example, assume a machine where a set parity flag indicates even parity.
What is the flag of 8085 microprocessor?
8085 has five flags. Sign flag, zero flag, Auxiliary carry flag, Parity flag and Carry flag.
What is the role of auxiliary carry flag in 8085 microprocessor?
This flag is used in BCD (Binary-coded Decimal) operations. The status of this flag is updated for every arithmetic or logical operation performed by ALU. This flag is set to one if there is a CARRY from the lower nibble or BORROW for the lower nibble in binary representation. Else it is set to zero.
What is the use of parity flag in 8086?
Parity Flag (PF) – this flag is set to 1 when there is even number of one bits in result, and to 0 when there is odd number of one bits. Even if result is a word only 8 low bits are analyzed! Auxiliary Flag (AF) – set to 1 when there is an unsigned overflow for low nibble (4 bits).
What is the mean of parity?
1 : the quality or state of being equal or equivalent Women have fought for parity with men in the workplace. 2a : equivalence of a commodity price expressed in one currency to its price expressed in another The two currencies are approaching parity for the first time in decades.
How do you implement a zero flag?
The zero flag could be generated from each nibble and then put together, like if there was a “half”-zero flag. The result for the lower would be saved using a flip-flop while waiting for the high nibble result to be calculated.
What is the function of carry flag?
In computer processors the carry flag (usually indicated as the C flag) is a single bit in a system status register/flag register used to indicate when an arithmetic carry or borrow has been generated out of the most significant arithmetic logic unit (ALU) bit position.
What is parity used for?
Parity bits are generally applied to the smallest units of a communication protocol, typically 8-bit octets (bytes), although they can also be applied separately to an entire message string of bits. The parity bit ensures that the total number of 1-bits in the string is even or odd.
How many flags are there in the 8085 microprocessor?
In 8085 microprocessor, flag register consists of 8 bits and only 5 of them are useful. The 5 flags are: Sign Flag (S) – After any operation if the MSB (B (7)) of the result is 1, it indicates the number is negative and the sign flag becomes set, i.e. 1. If the MSB is 0, it indicates the number is positive and the sign flag becomes reset i.e. 0.
What does jump if parity even mean in 8085?
In 8085 Instruction set, we are having one mnemonic JPE a16 , which stands for “Jump if Parity Even” and “a16” stands for any 16-bit address. This instruction is used to jump to the address a16 as provided in the instruction. But as it is a conditional jump so it will happen if and only if the present parity flag value is 1.
When to set the parity flag to 1?
Parity Flag (P) – If after any arithmetic or logical operation the result has even parity, an even number of 1 bits, the parity register becomes set i.e. 1, otherwise it becomes reset i.e. 0. This instruction will set the parity flag to 1 as the BCD code of 05H is 00000101, which contains even number of ones i.e. 2.
Where is the AC flag located in the 8085?
But 8085 microprocessor still stores this AC information in bit position 4 of the flags register. The result of execution of DAA instruction, is affected by the status of this flag. However, in our 8085 instruction set does not provide any instruction, which explicitly uses the AC flag.
