What is multi-select picklist?
Description. Multi-Picklist fields allow you to select multiple values on your records for various use cases. You have the ability to define values on creation of the field and after creation you can continue to add and remove other values.
What does bad value for restricted picklist field mean?
When you attempt to save a record in the Object that contains this picklist field, Salesforce attempts to populate the default value. Since the controlling value is not set and the picklist is restricted to only allow the dependent values, you will receive this error when you attempt to save the record.
Is there a character limit for multi select picklists?
Multi-select picklists have a character limit of 40 characters for each value and are automatically truncated without notice. You would think there would be some sort of warning for adding values over 40 characters or that the limit would be the same as the picklist field (255 characters), but there isn’t.

Reports cannot use the equals operator and must instead using contains or includes and you definitely won’t have happen executives if you are displaying a semicolon delimited list that has truncated values. For the most part, multiselect picklists can’t be grouped so that eliminates a lot of the dashboard graphs.
Can a muliselect be used as a dependent field?
They cannot be used as controlling fields for dependent picklist fields, and can only be used as a dependent field. In formulas, the muliselect has to use contain instead of includes or equal.
