What is plate stress?
Bending of plates, or plate bending, refers to the deflection of a plate perpendicular to the plane of the plate under the action of external forces and moments. The stresses in the plate can be calculated from these deflections.
What is a deflection plate?
One application is in small cathode ray tubes for oscilloscopes. In these tubes the electric field is created by two sets of paired electrodes, mounted at right angles, that the electron stream flows between. The electrodes are commonly called deflection plates.
How do I find the surface area of a rectangular plate?
The formula to find the surface area of a rectangular prism is A = 2wl + 2lh + 2hw, where w is the width, the l is the length, and the h is the height.
What happens when plates are bent?
A trench has formed at the bend. All that folding and bending makes rock in both plates break and slip, causing earthquakes. As the edge of the oceanic plate digs into Earth’s hot interior, some of the rock in it melts.
What causes the tectonic plates to move?
The heat from radioactive processes within the planet’s interior causes the plates to move, sometimes toward and sometimes away from each other. This movement is called plate motion, or tectonic shift.
What are the stress and deflection equations for flat plates?
Flat Rectangular Plate; one edge fixed, opposite edge free, remaining edges simply supported loading distributed line load w lb/in along free edge Stress and Deflection Equation and Calculator. Per. Roarks Formulas for Stress and Strain
How to calculate the deflection of a circular plate?
Circular plate, uniform load, edges simply supported equation and calculator Maximum stress and deflection for circular flat plates subject to concentrated or distributed loads (pressure) with the edge either clamped or supported.
When was the deflection of a rectangular plate invented?
Timoshenko, S., and J. M. Lessells: “Applied Elasticity,” Westinghouse Technical Night School Press, 1925. Evans, T. H.: Tables of Moments and Deflections for a Rectangular Plate Fixed at All Edges and Carrying a Uniformly Distributed Load, ASME J. Appl. Mech., vol. 6, no. 1, March 1939.
How to calculate strain on a flat plate?
