What is side-step approach?
Description. A side-step manoeuvre, allowed by some NAAs, is an Instrument Flight Rules (IFR) approach profile to closely spaced parallel runways in which the aircraft conducts the approach to one of the runways but lands on the other.
Are approach minimums AGL or MSL?
Altitude minimums for the approach requires staying at or above 2,000 feet msl until reaching the final approach fix (MIZYU), which is located 5 nautical miles from the end of the runway, and not descending below 900 feet msl (516 feet agl) unless the runway is in sight.
What are ILS minimums?
The minimums (which on any ILS approach also means the missed approach point) on a CAT II ILS are predicated on a radio altimeter altitude or RA. Minimums are usually around one hundred feet above touchdown.
When would you use a contact approach?
A contact approach will only be issued if the aircraft is operating clear of clouds with at least 1-mile of flight visibility, with a reasonable expectation of continuing to the destination airport under those conditions.
What does it mean to sidestep a runway?
Technically, the Side-Step maneuver is an IFR procedure that allows a controller to clear a pilot for an approach to a runway that has an approved IFR approach procedure, then when the pilot has the parallel runway in sight, the pilot can VISUALLY change course and land on the parallel runway.

To require an aircraft to execute a particular instrument approach procedure, specify in the approach clearance the name of the approach as published on the approach chart.
