What is SOS scheduler yield wait type in SQL Server?
Description: This wait type is when a thread was able to execute for its full thread quantum (4 milliseconds in all versions of SQL Server, unchangeable), and so voluntarily yielded the scheduler, moving to the bottom of the Runnable Queue in its scheduler.
What does SOS_SCHEDULER_YIELD mean?
SQL Operating System
SOS_SCHEDULER_YIELD means the SQL Operating System (SOS) is waiting for a CPU scheduler to yield more time, but this wait is a little trickier than that.
Why does SOS _ scheduler _ yield register a wait?
When this wait type occurs, it’s because a thread exhausted its 4ms scheduling quantum and voluntarily yielded the CPU, going directly to the bottom of the Runnable Queue for the scheduler, bypassing the Waiter List. A wait has to be registered though when a thread goes off the processor, so SOS_SCHEDULER_YIELD is used.
What does ” yield scheduler ” mean in SQL Server?
No data has been collected for this type. This wait type is when a thread was able to execute for its full thread quantum (4 milliseconds in all versions of SQL Server, unchangeable), and so voluntarily yielded the scheduler, moving to the bottom of the Runnable Queue in its scheduler.
Is there a time limit on the waiter list?
Waiter list – the waiter list stores the threads that are in suspended state as they have to wait for a resource to became available. The waiter list does not impose any time limitations to contained threads and there are no parameters that can be set to limit the time a thread can spend in the waiter list.
What are the components of the SQL OS scheduler?
The SQL OS scheduler (or SOS Scheduler) consists of three components: Processor – this is the physical or logical CPU/CPU core and it is in charge of processing the thread at rate of one at a time Waiter list – the waiter list stores the threads that are in suspended state as they have to wait for a resource to became available.
