What is SSD single shot detector?
SSD is a single-shot detector. It has no delegated region proposal network and predicts the boundary boxes and the classes directly from feature maps in one single pass. To improve accuracy, SSD introduces: small convolutional filters to predict object classes and offsets to default boundary boxes.
How does a single shot SSD work?
Instead of using sliding window, SSD divides the image using a grid and have each grid cell be responsible for detecting objects in that region of the image. Detection objects simply means predicting the class and location of an object within that region.
What are SSD anchors?
The key idea underlying SSD is the concept of default boxes (or anchors). SSD contains 8732 default boxes. The goal of the model is to decide which of the default boxes to use for a given image and then predict offsets from the chosen default boxes to obtain the final prediction.
What is SSD inception?
Abstract: In the current object detection field, one of the fastest algorithms is the Single Shot Multi-Box Detector (SSD), which uses a single convolutional neural network to detect the object in an image. We adopt the Inception block to replace the extra layers in SSD, and call this method Inception SSD (I-SSD).
What is SSD in deep learning?
We present a method for detecting objects in images using a single deep neural network. Our approach, named SSD, discretizes the output space of bounding boxes into a set of default boxes over different aspect ratios and scales per feature map location.
What is the output of SSD?
Input and Output: The input of SSD is an image of fixed size, for example, 512×512 for SSD512. The fixed size constraint is mainly for efficient training with batched data. Being fully convolutional, the network can run inference on images of different sizes. The output of SSD is a prediction map.
How does a single shot detector ( SSD ) work?
On the other hand, algorithms like YOLO (You Only Look Once) [1] and SSD (Single-Shot Detector) [2] use a fully convolutional approach in which the network is able to find all objects within an image in one pass (hence ‘single-shot’ or ‘look once’) through the convnet.
How is single shot Multibox detection used in deep learning?
Single Shot MultiBox Detector is a deep learning model used to detect objects in an image or from a video source. Single Shot Detector is a simple approach to solve the problem but it is very effective till now. SSD has two components and they are the Backbone Model and the SSD Head.
Which is better single shot or Multibox detector?
Computationally, these can be very expensive and therefore ill-suited for real-world, real-time applications. Single-shot models encapsulate both localization and detection tasks in a single forward sweep of the network, resulting in significantly faster detections while deployable on lighter hardware. Multiscale Feature Maps.
When did the single shot detection algorithm come out?
It was released at the end of November 2016 and reached new records in terms of performance and precision for object detection tasks, scoring over 74% mAP (mean Average Precision) at 59 frames per second on standard datasets such as PascalVOC and COCO.
