What is statistical similarity?
In statistics and related fields, a similarity measure or similarity function is a real-valued function that quantifies the similarity between two objects. In machine learning, common kernel functions such as the RBF kernel can be viewed as similarity functions.
What statistical test compares means?
The compare means t-test is used to compare the mean of a variable in one group to the mean of the same variable in one, or more, other groups. The null hypothesis for the difference between the groups in the population is set to zero. We test this hypothesis using sample data.
Is aas a similarity theorem?
For the configurations known as angle-angle-side (AAS), angle-side-angle (ASA) or side-angle-angle (SAA), it doesn’t matter how big the sides are; the triangles will always be similar. These configurations reduce to the angle-angle AA theorem, which means all three angles are the same and the triangles are similar.
Is there a t test to check for similarity of 2 samples?
Paired samples t-test suggested that there are no differences between these two samples. Because I remember from stats courses that the absence of a difference doesn’t mean that the samples are similar, I wanted to ask if there is a statistical significance test to check for similarity of 2 samples?
Why is it important to know the statistics of sequence similarity scores?
To assess whether a given alignment constitutes evidence for homology, it helps to know how strong an alignment can be expected from chance alone.
When do you consider the sample mean differences as similar?
You may define for yourself, that you consider the sample mean differences as similar, if the 95%-confidence interval does not contain values above 0.5 or below -0.5 or any other limit of practical equality (ok, this may work even better with a Baysian credible interval, but given the question you will need an answer that es easy to produce).
How to choose the right type of statistical test?
Nominal: represent group names (e.g. brands or species names). Binary: represent data with a yes/no or 1/0 outcome (e.g. win or lose). Choose the test that fits the types of predictor and outcome variables you have collected (if you are doing an experiment, these are the independent and dependent variables ).
