STRUCTURAL NAVIGATION. As its name implies, structural navigation follows the structure of a web site. It allows people to move up and down the different points of a site’s hierarchy. Structural navigation can be further subdivided into two types: main navigation and local navigation.
Managed navigation is another out-of-the-box option that you can use to recreate most of the same functionality as structural navigation.
When to use structural navigation or managed navigation in SharePoint?
In SharePoint, you can choose between two navigation methods: structural navigation or managed navigation when you’ve enabled the publishing feature on your classic SharePoint experience site. Structural navigation is based on site structure. Managed navigation is based on term sets. Managed navigation lets you define and maintain your site
Enable managed navigation for a site 1 From Settings , select Site settings. 2 On the Site Settings page, in the Look and Feel section, select Navigation. 3 On the Navigation Settings page, in the Global Navigation section, select Managed Navigation: The navigation items will be represented using a Managed Metadata term set.
On-Premises: Good performance, as long as WFEs are powerful, site structure isn’t changed periodically, caching is used and master page hasn’t been modified to include riculous amount of levels Second option would be managed navigation, which is widely used, and not horribly difficult, but does require extra configuration.
How many navigation nodes are there in managed navigation?
One is configured to use structural navigation while the other is using managed navigation. Both are populated with 125 navigation nodes on global and current navigation.
