What is the difference between common emitter and common collector?
The common emitter configuration has a current gain approximately equal to the β value of the transistor itself. However in the common collector configuration, the load resistance is connected in series with the emitter terminal so its current is equal to that of the emitter current.
What is Rin and Rout?
In the previous lab, you designed a common-emitter (CE) amplifier. Voltage gain (AV) is easy to achieve with this type of amplifier. As you discovered, the input impedance (Rin) of the CE amplifier is moderate- to-high (on the order of a few kΩ). The output impedance (Rout) is high (roughly the value of RC).
Why do we cascade a CE amplifier with a CC amplifier?
The cascade of a Common Emitter amplifier stage followed by a Common Collector (emitter-follower) amplifier stage can provide a good overall voltage amplifier, figure 10.1. The high input resistance of the Common Emitter stage, Q1, makes the input voltage nearly independent of input-source resistance.
