Can LED work on AC voltage?
In most applications, LEDs are driven by a DC power supply, but AC offers several significant advantages. Lynk Labs has developed technology that allows LEDs to be driven directly from an AC supply. LEDs are usually considered to be DC devices, operating from a few volts of direct current.

To calculate an LED’s power use, simply multiply the LED’s voltage (in volts) by the LED’s current (in amperes). The result, measured in watts, is the amount of power your LEDs use. For example, if your LED has a voltage of 3.6 and a current of 20 milliamperes, it will use 72 milliwatts of power.

Regular incandescent bulbs work just fine on either AC or DC, LED’s will work on AC if you don’t overpower them but they will be off 1/2 the power cycle since diodes only allow power to pass one way, though generally they are DC. You will have more voltage loss on long runs with DC.
