What is DEM SRTM?
SRTM (Shuttle Radar Topography Mission) DEM is unique product which was produced by NASA and NGA in cooperation with German and Italian space agency. In February 2000 special mission of Endeavour spaceshuttle started. The aim of this mission was to obtain elevation data on a near-global scale.
Is SRTM a DEM?
As the first homogeneous, consistent, high-resolution digital elevation dataset with nearly global coverage, SRTM DEM has been widely used in various research fields since its release.
What is difference between DEM and DTM?
A DEM is a bared-earth raster which non-ground (man-made) features such as roads and building aren’t included in it. Whereas DTM is a 3D model of visualizing surface elevation data; its structure is based on the TIN which is vector data. A DTM reinforces a DEM by including man-made features of the bare-earth terrain.
What is the difference between DEM and SRTM?
On technical side, SRTM 30 meter DEM is supposed to be more accurate than ASTER 30 DEM. The reason behind is the technique adopted for DEM derivation. SRTM uses radar observations to construct DEM while ASTER uses stereo imagery and photogrammetric techniques to extract DEM.
What is cartosat Dem?
Cartosat-I or IRS P5 (Indian Remote Sensing Satellite) is a remote sensing satellite meant for cartographic applications like generation of Digital Elevation Model (DEM) and was launched by Inadian Space research organization (ISRO).
What is version 3.0 of SRTM global 1?
Version 3.0 SRTM Global 1 arc second product is void-filled using elevation data from Advanced Spaceborne Thermal Emission and Reflection Radiometer ( ASTER) Global Digital Elevation Model 2 ( GDEM2 ), USGS Global Multi-resolution Terrain Elevation Data ( GMTED) 2010, and USGS National Elevation Dataset ( NED ).
How often does SRTM collect land surface data?
SRTM successfully collected radar data over 80% of the Earth’s land surface between 60° north and 56° south latitude with data points posted every 1 arc-second (approximately 30 meters). The level of processing and the resolution of the data will vary by SRTM data set.
How big is the srtm-1 ground resolution?
Before September 2014, only the USA was provided with the higher resoluted SRTM-1 images with a resolution of approx. 25m. All other regions only had the chance to use the SRTM-3 with 90m ground resolution. From now on, SRTM-1 can beat the free ASTER-DGM with a large global coverage.
Are there any parts of the world missing from SRTM?
Parts of Canada, Russia, Greenland, Scandinavia, Artica and Antarctica are missing due to the SRTM coverage limit of the mission (56°S-60°N). Before September 2014, only the USA was provided with the higher resoluted SRTM-1 images with a resolution of approx. 25m.
