What is the voltage of the SMPS power supply?
It was working about ten years ago when i’ve last tried to boot the system, but now one of the output voltages is at half of the nominal value (12V output is at 5.6V). I have replaced all of the electrolytic capacitors in the SMPS, and resoldered all points on low voltage section – still 12V output is at 5.6V.
What happens if there is no output on a SMP?
No output, good fuse SMPS can fail in many different ways, the most common being no output power at all. In this case, I start by checking the input fuse. If the fuse is good but there is no output, probably all the semiconductors are good and it could be easy to fix.
Where is the SMD diode on a SMPS controller?
This SMPS uses modern surface mount (SMD) components. Here, the controller uses SMD technology and is mounted on the bottom side. The large SMD diode is the low voltage rectifier. The high voltage side is above the dashed red line. The primary and secondary side are fully DC isolated by the transformer.
Why is my PSU output voltage too low?
If something is wrong with the resistor voltage divider or optocoupler in the feedback circuit, this could have the effect of a lower output voltage than expected. If you have a clamp amp-meter and the PSU output wires are exposed enough, check the currents out the 12V and 5V rail.
What kind of transformer to use for SMPS?
I first thought of using a step down transformer from 230v down to 6v ac, and then use a resistor to limit the current to like 10mA and use that to find the primary of the smps transformer because that would be safer right? Any tips are appricated! Thank you.
What do you need to know about switch mode power supply?
Switch mode power supply basics. The basic concept behind a switch mode power supply or SMPS is the fact that the regulation is undertaken by using a switching regulator. This uses a series switching element that turns the current supply to a smoothing capacitor on an off.
What are the requirements for a 12V power supply?
15W output. 12V 1.25A with less than 30mV pk-pk ripple at full load. Universal input rating. Input surge protection. Output short circuit, over-voltage and over-current protection. Constant voltage operations. From the above requirements there is a wide range of ICs to select from, but for this project, we have selected Power integration.
Which is the targeted output ripple for SMPS?
It is 12V and 1.25A. The targeted output ripple is selected as less the 30mV pk-pk at 20000 Hz bandwidth. Every SMPS circuit requires a Power Management IC also known as switching IC or SMPS IC or Drier IC. Let’s sum up the design considerations to select the ideal Power Management IC that will be suitable for our design.
What are the different types of SMPs converters?
The two important Isolated Topology based SMPS converters are: Some of the other commonly used isolated SMPS topologies are Half – bridge, Full – bridge, Push – Pull, Half – Forward, Isolated Cuk, etc. Buck Converter is a type of SMPS circuit and DC to DC Converter, where the output voltage is less than input voltage.
