What is XY recording technique?
X-Y. The X-Y technique consists of two identical cardioid microphones, placed on top of each other while facing away from each other at a 90 degree angle.
What is NOS mic technique?
The NOS method is to place two cardioid microphones 30 cm (11.811023622 inches) apart and angled at 90 degrees from one another. This method produces more ambience than a strict coincident placement of mics, and fewer phase problems than widely spaced pairs of mics.
Are DPA mics good?
Performer Magazine reviews the d:vice Digital Audio Interface, d:vote 4099 Instrument Microphone and d:fine Headset Microphone. DPA Microphones has designed and produced some amazingly small devices, and while they function well and sound great, they do leave us with a little head-scratching. More on that in a minute.
How do you set up XY overheads?
XY. Setup is pretty well as it sounds, put the mics right next to each over the kit, with one mic pointing towards one side of the kit, one pointing the other. The almost form a “V” when done right. The big advantage to this method is that the phase correlation between the two mics is great.
How do you use the XY mic?
If you’re like most engineers, then the XY technique is probably the first stereo miking technique you learned. This one is extremely simple to set up — just position two cardioid mics (usually small-diaphragm condensers) at right angles, aligning the front of the capsules, and you’re good to go.
What DPA means?
deferred prosecution agreement
A deferred prosecution agreement, or “DPA,” is a mechanism for resolving a case against a company that is, essentially, an unofficial form of probation. Under a DPA, the government will bring charges against a defendant but agrees not to move forward on those charges.
What is a Blumlein array?
A stereo microphone technique devised by Alan Blumlein in the early 1930s. It employs a pair of microphones with figure-eight polar patterns, mounted at 90 degrees to each other with the two diaphragms vertically aligned in so-called ‘coincidence’.
How to mic and record a choir-DPA Microphones?
If you work with a Left-Right PA system, one way to enhance the separation between several microphones in front of a choir is by panning. If the purpose is to get highest gain before feedback, it is an advantage to pan every second microphone to one side and vice versa the other microphones.
How to mic and record a grand piano?
Miking a grand piano with DPA microphones Place the 4061 miniature microphones in foam windscreens with the DMM0011 Magnet Microphone Holder in and around the sound holes of the piano. You can use two or three 4061s and create a balanced multi-dimensional sound with good front of house and monitor volume, along with recordability.
How are binaural recording techniques used in Psycho-Acoustic Research?
In psycho-acoustic research, the application of binaural techniques is quite common. Binaural recordings can provide much more detail than other techniques. Comparisons of (over-the-ear) headphones can be done by using the binaural microphones under the headphone cushions.
What should the spacing be for XY stereo recording?
The crossing point is marked (•): Hence, the spacing (d) should be 40 cm (16 in). XY stereo recording uses a coincident pair of directional- or bidirectional, angled microphones. Hence, the directional information is obtained solely from the level difference between signals.
