What makes LED lights brighter?
LED lights are so bright because they have a high lumen/watt score. This is an enormous difference between the levels of light you are getting from each bulb and because the LED bulb is so much higher there is no way that you would need to replace a 40W incandescent bulb with the equivalent Watt in a LED.
Do LED lights last longer if dimmed?
Since dimming, either by reducing current or by pulse width modulation, results in lower overall junction temperatures, it will have no negative impact on LED life; it might even extend life.
Can dimmers damage LED lights?
The simple answer is yes – there can be a fundamental incompatibility between the LED driver and the dimmer which leads to spurious and often very large current pulses into the driver. Oscillogram 1 shows the measured LED voltage (red) and current (yellow) of a GU10 LED lamp being dimmed with an incompatible dimmer.
Why do LED lights have more lumens than incandescents?
Like any fixture, the output depends on how much wattage it takes in and how many lumens it produces (lumens are a measurement of light’s brightness). Because LEDs produce many more lumens per watt than incandescent or fluorescent bulbs, you can’t look at wattage alone.
Is the output of LED light bulbs the same?
Two different LEDs can consume the same power but differ noticeably in light output. When selecting LED bulbs, it’s better to look at light output instead of power. The light output of a bulb is measured in a unit called lumens (lm), and this is indicated on the packaging.
Do you have a bad impression of LED lighting?
Many people have a bad impression of LED from early versions of the technology in which, yes, the light did tend to have a blue tint to it. But the industry is constantly developing, and LEDs are now being designed to meet our expectations for the lighting we’d want in our homes.
Is it possible to make a LED light too bright?
Often one does not want to completely deactivate or mask the device lamps that are too bright. After all, many status LEDs have a useful function and indicate a corresponding operating status of the device.
