What materials can make glass?
Glass is made from natural and abundant raw materials (sand, soda ash and limestone) that are melted at very high temperature to form a new material: glass. At high temperature glass is structurally similar to liquids, however at ambient temperature it behaves like solids.
Can I make my own glass?

How do you make simple glass?
Believe it or not, glass is made from liquid sand. You can make glass by heating ordinary sand (which is mostly made of silicon dioxide) until it melts and turns into a liquid. You won’t find that happening on your local beach: sand melts at the incredibly high temperature of 1700°C (3090°F).
What is the best way to sand glass?
Sand down the edges with 150-grit, 220-grit, 320-grit, then finally 400-grit sandpaper to make your glass even smoother. Then, use 1000-grit and 2000-grit sandpaper to polish the edge to perfection. Wipe the edge of the glass with a clean damp cloth once you’ve finished sanding to wipe away any leftover grit or dust.
Can glass be reversed back to sand?
Finely crushed glass is basically a very pure form of sand. Crushed glass is sold as an alternative to sand for pool filters – in fact, recycled crushed glass has been considered as a partial replacement for the sand on some of Florida’s eroding beaches.
Why is glass not sustainable?
The biggest environmental impact from glass comes from making the stuff. Melting the raw materials down produces Carbon Dioxide as well as Nitrogen Oxides, a contributor to smog. Moreover, other environmental concerns of glassmaking are water pollution and the use of non-renewable materials such as sand and minerals.
