What units does Blender use?
By default, Blender uses arbitrary “Blender units”: one unit per grid square. Let’s set the units to millimeters. Click Metric, and enter 0.001 into the “Scale” text box. Now one “Blender unit” will be equivalent to 0.001 meters or 1 mm.
What does M mean in blender?
In Blender 2.50 through to Blender 2.55 the base unit of all measurement systems is “1 unit” (large blue/grey cube shown above), which translates directly to “1 metre”. This subsequently means scaling, by Grid or “Units” properties has to be calculated relative to the decimal unit/metre when using Imperial measurements.
Are STL files to scale?
The STL exporter doesn’t take Scene Scale into account. Import your STL back into Blender (it will have the same size) and drag Scene Scale up back to 1.0, and you’ll see how the cube grows relative to the grid.
Which is the scale in Blender when importing?
So you should configure the scale in the Blender importer to use 0.001 as scale, because, in Blender, if configured the world scale in the metric system, a unit is a meter. Configure the world units in Blender as Metric system. When importing, select 0.001 as scale for the STL file.
How to scale a STL file in Blender?
Configure the world units in Blender as Metric system. When importing, select 0.001 as scale for the STL file. So 1 unit in the STL will be a Blender’s unit * 0.001 converting the mm of the STL to meters.
How many units are in a blender unit?
So 1 unit in the STL will be a Blender’s unit * 0.001 converting the mm of the STL to meters. Thanks for contributing an answer to Blender Stack Exchange!
What happens when you import an OBJ into Blender?
When importing an OBJ in Blender, 1 unit in blender is equal to 1 unit from whichever program the model comes from. For example 1m in the obj is 1m in Blender when imported.
