What will happen when the magnet moves towards the coil?
When the magnet is stationary, there is no current in the coil. However, if we move the magnet towards the coil, the ammeter flicks to the right. This shows that we induced a current in the coil – but only whilst the magnet was moving. The direction of the current depended on the direction of the movement.
What happens to the magnetic field when the opposite poles of two magnets are facing each other?
When two like-poles point together, the arrows from the two magnets point in OPPOSITE directions and the field lines cannot join up. So the magnets will push apart (repel).
What happens when magnets are misaligned?
Magnets twist if the magnetic fields are not aligned At any point around the magnet, the magnetic field is parallel with these black lines. If the magnet is not aligned this way, it will feel a torque or twisting moment that tries to rotate it.
What happens when magnets move away from each other?
Magnets have two poles, a north pole and a south pole. If you have two magnets next to each other and their north poles are facing each other or their south poles are facing each other, you can see that the field lines move away from each other, so you feel a repelling force between the two magnets.
What is the direction of induced current in the coil?
Since current is increasing, the magnetic field also increases which results in induction of current in the coil. Applying Lenz law, the direction of induced current through the coil is anti-clockwise.
What will happen if the magnet is continuously getting in and out of the coil?
The student observes deflection in the galvanometer connected to the coil. What will happen if the magnet is continuously getting in and out of the coll? (a) the current induced in the coil will increase. (d) the magnetic field of the bar magnet would keep decreasing.
Why does magnetic PE increase when two like poles are further apart?
If you bring 2 magnets together so that like poles are near one another, the magnets repel. If you bring 2 magnets together so that opposite poles are near one another, the magnets attract. If you apply a force to separate 2 opposite poles, the potential energy of the system increases.
Where is the strongest part of a magnet?
The magnetic field generated by any magnet is always strongest at either pole. The magnetic force is equally as strong at both the north and south pole.
Can you force two magnets together?
When two magnets are brought together, the opposite poles will attract one another, but the like poles will repel one another. This is similar to electric charges. Like charges repel, and unlike charges attract. Since a free hanging magnet will always face north, magnets have long been used for finding direction.
Is a magnets push or pull stronger?
When two magnets are close, they create pushing or pulling forces on one another. These forces are strongest at the ends of the magnets. The two ends of a magnet are known as the north pole and the south pole.
Who gave the direction of induced current?
Fleming’s left hand rule is used for finding the directions of the motion for electric motors while Fleming’s right hand rule is used for finding the direction of the induced current in electric generators.
How does a current carrying coil turn in a magnetic field?
A current-carrying coil in a magnetic field experiences a turning effect. In Figure, a rectangular coil ABCD carries a current in the magnetic field between two magnadur magnets. (a) The sides BC and DA carry currents with directions parallel to the magnetic field.
Can a magnet point in a different direction?
In a vacuum, B = H (the two are indistinguishable), but in magnetic materials, such as a magnet, the two are different and can even point in different directions. Hope that helps! How does a turning effect on a coil work?
This pair of forces produces a turning effect to rotate the coil until it is stopped by the control springs. The pointer fixed to the coil deflects to show a reading on the scale.
How is the magnetic force between two currents different?
For current 1 your thumb points upward, but for current 2 it points downward. Should the magnetic field of the area between the wires be into the page and the area outside’s come out?
