When to Use Which Widgets
- Radio buttons are used when there is a list of two or more options that are mutually exclusive and the user must select exactly one choice.
- Checkboxes are used when there are lists of options and the user may select any number of choices, including zero, one, or several.

Can radio buttons be deselected by default?
Today’s websites, forms, and applications inconsistently select one or leave all radio buttons blank by default. If none of the buttons is selected by default, users have no way to revert to this original state after they’ve made a selection. The lack of a standard can be confusing to users.
Switch to custom mode to completely customize the style of checkboxes and radio buttons. To enable custom styling, enable the new “custom” option in the checkbox and radio button form element mini-settings. (Note that you can always switch checkboxes and radio buttons back to their “default” styling if you want to keep things simple.)
But they both can have implications for web form accessibility if they’re not used correctly. This post outlines the best practices for using checkboxes and radio buttons and highlights some of the potential pitfalls with their use. Checkboxes are used in two subtly different ways.
What happens when you change the radio button?
Also, the changed settings should not take effect until the user clicks the command button (labeled “OK” for example, or “Proceed to XXX” where “XXX” is the next step in a process). If the user clicks the Back button, any changes made to checkboxes or radio buttons on the page should be discarded and the original settings reinstated.
There are two base CSS rules that must be placed first in our cascade. First, we create a custom variable called –color which we will use as a simple way to easily theme our radio buttons. Next, we use the universal selector to reset the box-sizing method used to border-box.
