When to use default values on picklist fields?
Use case is we need to have the picklist field populated to drive a dependent picklist. This is definitely a must to prevent custom devs, especially since passing default values in the URLs does not work any more in the mobile SF1 App (formulas are not available as well for these fields on quick create actions) !

Yes please!!! We need to be able to default a picklist value from the parent record, or even generically from a formula field. Use case is we need to have the picklist field populated to drive a dependent picklist.
