The front impact severity sensor (frontal restraint sensor) is located in the front of the vehicle, behind the grille, mounted on the radiator support. The side impact sensors are mounted in each of the doors, behind the trim panel.
How do I reset my front sensor?
Remove the terminal clamp and leave it disconnected for 5-10 seconds to allow the airbag sensor to reset. Then reconnect the battery terminal and turn the vehicle on. With a bit of luck, the light will stay off.
What does an impact sensor do?
Shock and impact sensors are designed to detect instances of sudden impact or severe vibration in order to output a value or, in the case of impact switches, activate or deactivate a circuit or device.
How does a front impact sensor work?
Mass-Type Sensor An impact sensor is normally fitted to the front of the vehicle as this is where a collision is likely to occur. Both types of sensors (termed inertia sensors) work on the principle of detecting a decrease in acceleration of a moving vehicle and generating an electrical impulse.
Do I have to replace impact sensor?
The area of accident damage is defined as the portion of the vehicle which is crushed, bent, or damaged due to a collision. If the impact sensor or the mounting structure of the impact sensor is damaged, the impact sensor must be replaced. Replace the impact sensor whether or not the air bags have deployed.

How many impact sensors are in a car?
AIR BAG CRASH SENSORS Located in the front of most domestic vehicles are one to three “crash” sensors. These are positioned well forward in the crush zones so they will react almost instantly to the sudden deceleration that results from a frontal impact (anything up to about 30 degrees either side of center).
