When a document or form library has a default file template, it is stored in the Forms folder of the library. Open the library in Windows Explorer to see the Forms folder, which contains the file template for the library. By default, a document library has a file template, called template.
In SharePoint, metadata is additional information about your files such as the author, file name, creation date, content type and file size to name a few, which make it easier to locate, retrieve and organise your enterprise content.
Where are my Word templates stored?
By default, user templates files are stored in the following location:
- In Windows XP: \Documents and Settings\\Application Data\Microsoft\Templates.
- In Windows Vista or Windows 7: \Users\\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Templates.
How to fill SharePoint metadata in Word document template?
Generate your document template with content inside it. Keep the values to be filled in blank. Upload this document to a document library in SharePoint. Whatever metadata you want to fill automatically in the document, create those columns in the same document library.
How is metadata extracted from a SharePoint document?
Some are capable to add them automatically to the appropriate SharePoint column. The capabilities offered by the tools is quite diverse. Some look at document properties, thus extracting standard document related metadata, others use artificial intelligence to extract the data.
