Is U.S. Census data publicly available?
Records from the censuses of population and housing are publicly accessible 72 years after each decennial census’ “Census Day.” The most recent publicly available census records are from the 1940 census, released April 2, 2012. Therefore, records from the 1950 census will be released on April 1, 2022.

What is the latest census available to public?
1940
Because of a 72-year restriction on access to the Census, the most recent year available is 1940. The 1950 Census will be released in 2022. The National Archives has the census schedules on microfilm available from 1790 to 1940, and most have now been digitized by our digitization partners.
