Where do rendered videos go?
Animations are rendered by hitting “Ctrl+F12” or by going to the Render menu and hit “Render animation”. However they are not directly accessed through the image editor. Instead they are always directly saved to disk. On windows, the default path is “C:\tmp”.
How do I know my rendering?
Most of the information that will be useful to you is in the Render Result view of the Image Editor window. The Render Result usually comes up automatically when you start rendering. You can also bring it up by pressing F11 . This is by far the best place to get information about a render process.

I understand that they would have many machines, but even with 400 machines it would still take a year just to render.
Where does the render file go in Windows 10?
The render will be written to the output path. This will create a file /tmp/test.png. Note that the File output node has format and output path settings in the Properties region ( N) which are separate from the scene settings. It sounds like you’re rendering a preview, not the image.

As an extension of Keavon’s answer, Blender does not write still renders to the hard drive by default in the GUI. Command line renders are written to the hard drive automatically, and there is an addon which adds this functionality in the GUI. (see this post ).
