Where should shelf brackets be placed?
You should fit shelf brackets with the longer arm against the wall and the shorter one under the shelf. Remember, the length of the longer arm will show you how closely you can fit the shelves on top of each other.
How far apart should shelf supports be?
Supporting brackets for most shelves should be spaced no more than 24 inches apart for light to medium loads (15 to 20 pounds per foot). This means that the vertical slotted pilasters must be spaced at about that distance from one another on the wall.
