Which API is used for data loader?
By default, Data Loader uses the SOAP-based API to process records. To configure Data Loader to use the Bulk API for inserting, updating, upserting, deleting, and hard deleting records: Choose Settings | Settings.

- Log in to your salesforce application.
- Go to setup-> Data management ->data loader.
- Install that downloaded file in your machine.
- To start data loader double click on short cut on your desktop or go to Start > all programs >saledforce.com>Apex data loader>Apex Data loader.
Why is the dataloader insert not firing trigger?
I added a number of tasks via the dataloader and the trigger did not fire. When I went into one of the tasks and just clicked edit/save, the trigger fired. Does anyone know how I can get it to fire when the dataloader is used?

What happens if you insert records through data loader?
Trigger will work even if you are inserting the records through Data loader. Will you please check if the records you inserting are meeeting the trigger execution condition? Thanks. I actually had an error in one of my conditions, which is why it was not updating.
