Being able to mention the user would be a great help. Many orgs have other fields for important people involved on that the Opportunity. Being able to use those as a reference would be helpful. Or to be able to mention based on a dynamic value in a field.

Being able to reference lookup references for mentions would be a great use. Example, using Process Builder to post a “your opportuntiy has been approved” message in chatter. Not every user can follow every opportunity record. Even then it can get lost in the feed. Being able to mention the user would be a great help.

While process builder has the ability to post to chatter, its capabilities are a bit simplistic. In process builder, you can post to a user, a chatter group or the record. There is no ability to @mention multiple users dynamically.
