Which package is readOGR?
package rgdal
The super-powerful grandfather of functions for reading vector-based spatial data is readOGR from the package rgdal . You can use this function to read in dozens of different formats but the syntax can be odd and, importantly, is different for different input types.
What does readOGR do?
The function reads an OGR data source and layer into a suitable Spatial vector object. It can only handle layers with conformable geometry features (not mixtures of points, lines, or polygons in a single layer). It will set the spatial reference system if the layer has such metadata.
How do you plot SHP in R?
Read the shapefile into R (we name it shp). Select the region variable, which should be distinct for different rows. (Or generate one!)…Introduction
- Get the shapefile.
- Read the shapefile into R. For example, using rgdal::readOGR.
- Use ggplot to plot the shapefile.
- DONE!
How do you plot a shapefile?
You will have to do tidy with broom package beforehand: Get the shapefile. Read the shapefile into R (we name it shp)….Plotting a shapefile without attributes is easy, which follows the steps:
- Get the shapefile.
- Read the shapefile into R. For example, using rgdal::readOGR.
- Use ggplot to plot the shapefile.
- DONE!
What kind of layers can the readogr function handle?
It can only handle layers with conformable geometry features (not mixtures of points, lines, or polygons in a single layer). It will set the spatial reference system if the layer has such metadata.
Can a layer be missing in ogrlistlayers 1.2?
From rgdal 1.2.*, layer may be missing, in which case ogrListLayers examines the dsn, and fails if there are no layers, silently reads the only layer if only one layer is found, and reads the first layer if multiple layers are present, issuing a warning that layer should be given explicitly.
How to read a shapefile from a layer?
So, here’s the actual code so I don’t have to look it up again. refers simply to that directory. So all you need is simply a “.”. The layer is the name of shapefile without an extension. So it would look something like: refers to. Again it is simply the directory where the shapefile resides.
How to set spatial reference system in readogr?
It will set the spatial reference system if the layer has such metadata. If reading a shapefile, the data source name ( dsn= argument) is the folder (directory) where the shapefile is, and the layer is the name of the shapefile (without the .shp extension).
