Why a tool called Burp Suite is able to intercept and read https encrypted traffic on your computer even when it is known to be encrypted?
This lets you intercept, inspect, and modify the raw traffic passing in both directions. If the application employs HTTPS, Burp breaks the TLS connection between your browser and the server, so that even encrypted data can be viewed and modified within Burp’s tools.
How is SSL intercept used in an attack?
SSL Intercept is the process of intercepting SSL/TLS encrypted internet communication between the client and server. Interception can be executed between the sender and the receiver and viceversa (receiver to sender)—it’s the same technique used in man-in-the-middle (MiTM) attacks, without the consent of both entities.
How does a firewall intercept a TLS session?
The Firewall intercepts the traffic coming and decrypts TLS sessions between clients and servers. Once the traffic has been decrypted, the Firewall inspects the content through antivirus scanning, web filtering, etc. Then the interceptor encrypts the traffic and forwards it to the destination server.
How can the NSA, and your boss, intercept and break SSL?
The client, typically a Web-browser but it can also be an e-mail, cloud-storage or some other kind of network service client, replies with what kind of SSL it can handle and the client and server compare notes on identity certificates and cryptographic keys until they come to an agreement that they can set up a secure transport layer.
What’s the difference between SSL inspection and interception?
This kind of inspection or interception is called Full SSL Inspection or Deep SSL Inspection. It allows you to do antivirus scanning, web filtering, email filtering, etc. Interception and inspection are done by an interception device sitting in the middle, often referred to as a ‘middlebox.’ How does SSL Inspection work?
