Why are my brakes grinding after new rotors?
Another reason why your car may be grinding is that there is debris on your brake pad or rotor. If a mechanic sees debris on the rotor when they are replacing the pads, they should clean it or repair it. But often, dirt or dust sneaks on between the pad and rotor when the new pad is being installed.
How many miles break in new rotors?
You may even hear squeaking sounds, see smoke, or smell an odor; this is normal due to break-in period. It will take approximately 400-500 miles of moderate driving for the new brake pads to be fully embedded into the rotors which will then give optimal performance.
Why are my new brakes shaking?
Brake vibration, or what can also be referred to as a shaking or pulsation, often is the result of parts of the disc brake’s rotor being thinner than others instead of uniform all around. If the vehicle’s pads “drag” on the rotors too long, the brake rotor and/or the pads can become damaged.

What to do when your brake rotors are overheated?
Holding the brake pedal depressed when the brakes are overheated may imprint or weld pad material on to the rotors. The DTV will often be visible as the outline of a brake pad on the rotor surface. It should normally be sufficient to remove the pad imprint using a brush or sandpaper.
When to replace brake pads and rotors for DTV?
Prevention is better than a cure. Each time you fit new brake pads or have them fitted, avoid hard braking for the first 125 miles. When poor bedding-in has resulted in slight DTV, it may be sufficient to bed-in the brakes once again. If this does not re-align the rotor surfaces, the only solution is to replace both the brake pads and rotors.
