Why did the top navigation disappear in SharePoint?
Turns out that when a communication site was created they where auto activating the ” SharePoint Server Publishing Infrastructure” under site collection features. Once the site was turned into a HUB, that feature broke the primary communication site navigation and other features. It also affected the TOP navigation in odd ways.
Why are top navigation links in hub sites suddenly disappearing?
Top navigation links in hub sites and their child sites randomly disappearing and re-appearing. For over a decade SP on-prem has had navigation providers able to deliver a comprehensive solution to hierarchy traversal UI / UX, along with the good ol’ “Portal Uplink”.
Is the navigation tab missing in site settings?

Where do I find navigation in SharePoint settings?
Now for each site you can activate feature “Office SharePoint Server Publishing”. You are done. You should be able to see the option “Navigation” now. I believe the navigation option only shows in site collections where the publishing feature is enabled.
What did anybody else’s top link bar disappear?
*Edit* This appears to have affected sites with Publishing enabled. Top link bar isn’t visible while using any app or Pages. Site Collections started Classic but are mostly Modern at this point. Is the navigation at the top of the page?
