Why do MAC addresses not change?
It is not impossible to change MAC addresses. All ethernet devices come with a BIA (Burned In Address) that was set at the factory to be unique. The device defaults to its BIA at power-up. Most devices allow the MAC to be reconfigured through software.
Does router change source and destination MAC address?
Exam Alert: Remember that the source and destination IP address do not change throughout the process while the source and destination MAC address changes at each segment. You will see multiple questions about this on the CCNA exam! The MAC address is only locally significant and changes each hop.
Can bridges change MAC address?
When the first MAC address of the first interface in bridge-ports changes, either through enslaving a new port or releasing the current first port, the bridge’s MAC address will change, thus changing its STP bridge address. 0 or later, it is likely that the bridge and SVI MAC addresses will change between versions.
Does bridge have IP address?
Neither the bridge nor the ports in the virtual machine network, have IP addresses assigned to them, though you may assign IP addresses if you wish during network creation. Bridges are only created for networks with the virtual machine role.
How are MAC addresses changed by routers for forwarding?
Host A and B are in different subnets, and their default gateways are Router A and Router B vlan interfaces. My question is when Router A forward the packets to Router B, does it change packets’ source MAC to it outgoing interface MAC and destination MAC to Router B’s incoming interface MAC?
What happens if the source MAC address of a frame change?
If the switch were to change the source MAC address, the destination host would use this MAC address for any responses (including updating any ARP entries with bad data).
What happens when a frame comes into a router?
When a frame comes into a router, the router strips off and discards the frame, losing any layer-2 addressing, including MAC addresses. The router will build a new frame for the next interface.
When to assign Mac and IP addresses on bridge interface?
When your “primary” NIC is a member of the bridge, such that the bridge is your connectivity to the outside world. In this case, rather than assigning an ip address to (for example) eth0, you would assign it to the bridge device instead. If the bridge is not required for ip routing, then it doesn’t need an ip address.
