Why do my revs go up when I change gear?
This is due to the inertia of the flywheel, and the lack of air going in the intake as the throttle is release. After the gear change is over and the clutch is released, the engine speed will go back up again, meeting the transmission speed.

Anybody any suggestions or advise please? is the accelerator connected directly to the engine (through a throttle cable) or does it work electrically (sending a signal to the ecu then telling the throttle body how much to accelerate the engine).
Why is my CDTI Astra H not revving?
This could be what is happening. If it’s a 1.9 CDTi 150 (Z19DTH), I’d take a look at the state of your EGR valve, MAP sensor and your swirl flaps. They’re common problems and can cause problems with power. If you have a P0400 or P0279 error code, it’s likely to be one of these causing the fault.

The spanner light can cause it to go into limp mode which will give you very minimal throttle response to allow it to still be driveable, but protect itself from further damage when a fault is detected. When driving along, the engine revs high when i change gear. I recently changed the ICV and cleaned the TB which cured the stalling when braking, bit now it over revs when i change gear.
