There is a high chance that you might have put it adulterated or bad fuel in your moped, this will definitely clog the engine part and will cause issues to an otherwise smooth engine.
Why does my scooter not accelerating?
In most cases a motor scooter will lose power when the combustion chamber is not provided with the correct mixture of air and gasoline. In other cases, a faulty spark plug is the cause, the lack of a proper spark will inhibit power on a moped or motor scooter resulting in sapped acceleration.
How do you check auto choke on a scooter?
How do we test it?
- Start and run the bike (fast tickover is fine) for at least 5 minutes. (
- Switch off the engine and *quickly* remove the moped choke unit.
- Now leave the choke for at least 20 mins to cool down and measure the distance again- distance B in the photo below.
Why is my scooter bogging down?
The problem of an engine bogging out is commonly caused by inefficiency of fuel or air flow or ignition to the carburetor. With a newer scooter, this could be caused of a few situations and one of them could be caused by driver error. Take the screws out of the top of the carburetor, which will expose the carb.
What happens if you put the wrong gas in your moped?
What happens if you put the wrong gas in a scooter? Using higher octane unleaded fuel will not damage the scooter engine. The companies charge a lot more for the high octane fuels than owners could ever save in improved performance.
Why does my engine die when I give it gas?
The car will stall if the valve is too clogged or when it finally fails. If, while holding the accelerator pedal down, a small amount of pressure keeps the car running at a stop, the idle control valve may require attention. In most late model cars, this problem will usually trigger the Check Engine light.
Why does my engine bog down when I give it gas?
Your engine either seems to bog down when you hit the gas pedal, or it takes a second or two to respond. An engine that hesitates when accelerating is either sucking too much air, not getting enough fuel, or misfiring. Here’s what you might discover—and what you can do to fix the problem: Dirty air filter.
What does a choke do on a scooter?
A choke valve/cable is designed to restrict the flow of air in the carburettor of an engine. This helps enrich the fuel-air mixture, improving the ability to start an engine in low temperature conditions.
How do you adjust a carburetor on a scooter?
Rotate the High jet counter-clockwise to 1 and 1/4 turns open. Rotate the low jet counter-clockwise to approx 1 and 3/8 turns open. Now, if the engine doesn’t start, you may need to turn the low jet slightly one way or the other for the engine to start. Adjust the low jet as desired until the idle is where you like it.
How much gas does a moped hold?
Scooters do have limitations, however. Even though some higher-end scooters can go as fast as 80 miles per hour, many max out at 45 miles per hour or less. And while scooters can get as many as 100 miles per gallon, the average tank can only hold two to three gallons.

You will need to open up your scooter in order to gain access to the intake system. Remove the seat, seat bucket and plastic cover which shields the engine. You’ll find the intake hose on the lower half of your engine (a large rubber piece).
Why does my car only run on choke?
A split in the air intake boot or a vacuum line, or a loose clamp holding the intake boot to the carb or engine will allow additional air to flow into the carburetor. This excess of air overwhelms the amount of fuel in the carb and creates an overly lean mixture.
Why does my motor scooter not start up?
When you start up your scooter the choke or auto choke opens up in order to allow air into the ignition system, over time dirt can enter through this process especially when your model has an old or faulty air filter. Unfortunately, this is a trickier issue to fix as it involves accessing and taking apart your carburetor.
What happens if you have an intake leak on a scooter?
An intake leak really messes up the air/fuel ratio on your scooter and this can cause idling issues or worse, piston damage. TOP TIP: The first place to check would be the rubber intake hose (boot) which passes fuel from your carburetor to the cylinder head. Rubber Intake hose (boot) – the first place to check!
