Why does my car shut off at low rpms?
There are several issues which could cause this behavior. A dirty throttle body (which you have already checked), a dirty idle air control valve, a failed throttle position sensor, an air leak in the intake (loose or split hose, crack in plastic components).
What causes a car to cut off while idling?
The first is the oxygen sensor, which is located in the exhaust manifold. If either of these sensors is relaying incorrect information. Then your engine might not receive enough air, which it needs to power itself. When there’s a lack of air, it leads to a lack of power, which can cause your car to stall while idling.
Why would a car start but not stay running?
Answer: If the engine cranks but won’t start, check for spark and fuel pressure. If it doesn’t crank at all, check the battery condition. Usually, when the engine warms up and then stops, it is an indication of a problem with an ignition coil, ignition module or even the fuel pump.
When does a car stall at low rpm?
The RPM goes to 0 and the engine shuts off. This only happens when travelling at low speeds (e.g. slowly accelerating from a stop, braking, moving in stop and go traffic) This NEVER happens when I’m travelling above 10 mph (e.g. if I’m coasting at 40 and let my foot off the gas, the RPM can go to 500 RPM but it will never stall in this case).
What to do if your car shuts off when you slow down?
There’s not always a warning light to alert you of this, but sometimes your car will be driving fine at road speed, only to die when you slow down and stop. If your engine shuts off at low speed, contact a mechanic immediately for a thorough inspection.
Why does my car shut down when I Turn on the engine?
A fuel filter is a small component whose only job is to clean the fuel that goes into the engine. If the fuel filter is clogged, the fuel entering the system will be insufficient, and the engine will shut down. Fortunately, it is easy for you to replace a fuel filter. Most fuel pumps are installed inside the fuel tank.
Why does my Chevy Equinox shut off at low speeds?
If the torque converter is broken, or if there is a low fluid level in the transmission, the converter will not do its job, and the car will be unable to maintain power at low speeds, which causes the engine to shut off.
