Why does my InDesign file keep crashing?
Sometimes a font conflict can occur causing InDesign to crash. This could be too many fonts installed, old or incompatible fonts, damaged fonts etc… There are a number of ways to fix this so rather than repeat them all here I thought it might make more sense to link to Adobe support pages on the subject.

Within the Library folder find the “Caches” folder. Within the Caches folder find and delete the entire folder “Adobe InDesign”. I find that deleting the InDesign cache folder completely leads to a lasting change.
