Why does my IPAD show unread mail?
Look for an “all mail” folder. If it has any unread emails in it, clear and mark that mail as read. For me, once I did this my iPhone updated, and the problem is corrected! For the iPhone, ghost messages disappeared by disabling mail, then turning off, then back on and then re-enabling Mail.
Why does Apple Mail Show read messages as unread?
Rules are applied after an email comes in, so messages still go into your inbox before they are sorted. Emails come in and then get sorted, so they appear in the inbox as unread messages before they reach their final destination. The badge is supposed to disappear after it’s sorted, but it doesn’t always work that way.
