Why does my power supply buzz?
If you are hearing a buzz or electrical type sound, then it’s likely due to a capacitor somewhere in your system that is vibrating at a frequency which is clashing with the rest of the components in the system.
How do I stop my power supply from buzzing?
Keep your power supply away from anything which produces electromagnetic interference — for example, fluorescent lights, power strips, flat-screen monitors, or large batteries. Simply moving your switching power supply a few feet from objects that produce interference can stop the noise entirely.
Is it normal for PSU to make noise?
This is a common issue but not really normal. You can RMA it to get a replacement, which hopefully will not also have that problem. Pretty much those big toroidal copper thingies can mechanically expand/contract with certain currents at certain frequencies passing through, and this vibration causes the sound you hear.
Can you put a power supply upside down?
The answer is an easy one, should you have enough room between the intake and the floor (and your case has a grill on the bottom for a PSU fan to draw air) you’ll want to have your PSU facing downwards. That said, if you want to install your PSU facing up, that’s perfectly fine too.

Some caps can make noises during charge and discharge but it is pretty rare and only very high loads. The coils on the other hands make the buzzing sounds even at low loads but especially audible at high loads. To make things short coil squeal could also be the sign of a defective unit if it is having the squeal through out the day and very often.
