Why does my RPM go up when idle?
If the engine can’t keep idling, it will continue trying to get it revved up to compensate. The cause of the erratic engine you’re experiencing could be a vacuum leak, sensor failure, or an EGR system malfunction.
When I start my car the RPMs go up?
When the engine is started for the first time each day, the engine revs way up, and the RPMs gradually go down to normal idle speed. It is normal for the engine rpm to go up to about 1200 to 1400 rpm when first started and then comes down gradually. This is for emissions during cold start and considered normal.
Why is the idle speed too high after start up?
The high idle after start up is one of Toyota’s way of reducing emission. A warm engine emits less emission than a cold one so Toyota and other manufacturers put in this feature to help get the engine to operating temperature quicker and thus reducing the higher emission that would have been emitted if the engine was still running cold.
What’s the idle speed on a Highlander V6?
I own an `04 Highlander V6. Whether winter or summer, when you first start the car after sitting overnight, the idle immediately races to 2,000 rpm, then drops to 1,800 rpm. It will then idle at 1,800 rpm for another whole minute or so, and then slowly start to drop off to 1,600 etc until it reaches about 1,300 rpm after about two full minutes.
How long does it take to warm up a car at 2000 rpm?
Do not I say! it is only 2000 rpms when i start the car when it is warmed up is normal… i was worried how long it would take to go from 2000 rpm to under 1000 rpm when its really cold out and the engine takes longer to warm. now it takes about 5 minutes and its only about 58 degrees…
What’s the idle rate on a new car?
Sometimes the idle is higher than 2k. It has been this way since new, 150k miles ago. I encourage you not to worry, it is not an issue. After start-up, count to ten slowly and then turn on the a/c, rear window defroster and headlights. This will bring your idle down to less than a grand.
