Why is camera capture so slow on OpenCV?

Why is camera capture so slow on OpenCV?

I am using the rtsp:// protocol. This camera have a web interface (IE / ActiveX) that shows the image with very low lag. (about 200~300 ms). I have no idea why it’s so slow on OpenCV. I wold like some tips to make the capture faster.

Why does CV RTSP camera buffer lag in Python?

It appears that there is a buffer and it causes the frames to build up if not being read – and as each iteration of my code takes some time there is a backlog and it ends up being almost slow mo to whats actually happening. I found the below code which triggers a thread to do the reading of the camera on a loop to try and avoid this.

How to measure the latency of a webcam?

By pointing your camera at the popup window and watch the color flips between black and white several times per second which reflects the latency. You can point your camera lens as close to the screen as possible, it doesn’t need to have a clear focus, only the average intensity is necessary to make the color flip.

Is there a low latency for RTSP stream?

This camera have a web interface (IE / ActiveX) that shows the image with very low lag. (about 200~300 ms). i tested this code when i put the video in input there it work well without latencyand when i use my camera ip or camera drone with RTSP protocol the soft work with latency 7~10s.

How to set frame retrieval delay in OpenCV?

We set the cv2.videoCapture () object to have a limited buffer size with the cv2.CAP_PROP_BUFFERSIZE parameter. The idea is that by limiting the buffer, we will always have the latest frame. This can also help to alleviate the problem of frames randomly jumping ahead. 2. Set frame retrieval delay

Why is the read too fast in OpenCV?

Currently, I believe the read () is reading too fast even though it is in its own dedicated thread. This may be one reason why all the frames appear to pool up and suddenly burst in the next frame. For instance, say in a one second time interval, it may produce 15 new frames but in the next one second interval, only 3 frames are returned.

Why is cap _ DShow so slow to open?

CAP_DSHOW does not exhibit this behavior. The Python OpenCV bindings is also experiencing slow open times with CAP_MSMF. I want to use MSMF for the GPU acceleration, but I can’t use it with these startup times. Is there a way around this issue?
