Why is my Ltft so high?
Why are the fuel trim numbers high? If LTFT or total fuel trim is greater than plus 10%, the PCM thinks the air/fuel ratio is too lean and it’s adding fuel to bring STFT control to the correct range.
What causes high positive fuel trim?
Here are some common causes of positive long-term fuel trim: Air or vacuum leaks in the intake manifold, throttle body or in a vacuum hose. Defective fuel pump not generating enough pressure or volume. Restricted fuel flow due to pinched hose or plugged filter.
What causes high short term fuel trim?
Short-term fuel trim happens as a result of changes in the oxygen levels of exhaust gases. An oxygen sensor monitors the flow and generates a signal that is proportional to the oxygen levels in the gases.
Can fuel trim cause misfire?
If the compression is low, excess raw hydrocarbon will be in the exhaust stream. The O2 sensor will read this as rich, and the computer will lean out the mixture (causing negative fuel trim) to compensate. An excessively lean mixture can cause misfires. Make sure you have spark and the plugs are good.
Is negative fuel trim lean?
Positive fuel trim percentages indicate that the powertrain control module (PCM) is attempting to richen the fuel mixture, to compensate for a perceived lean condition. Negative fuel trim percentages indicate the PCM is attempting to lean out the fuel mixture, to compensate for a perceived rich condition.
Is negative fuel trim rich or lean?
Negative fuel trim values If the displayed fuel trim value is a negative number, it means that the ECU is decreasing the injector pulse width to subtract fuel from the air/fuel mixture to lean out the air/fuel mixture because the input data it is receiving tells it that the mixture is too rich.
What causes a significant increase in STFT and LTFT?
A significant increase in STFT and LTFT can be caused by: 1 Unmeasured air is entering the engine due to a vacuum leak (higher fuel trim at idle, but less at higher RPMs) 2 Incorrectly reporting sensors (dirty MAF reporting less airflow) 3 Dirty or blocked fuel injectors More
What causes high long term fuel trim ( LTFT )?
A high Long Term Fuel Trim is the result of an engine that is consistently running lean… OR because the computer THINKS it is running lean. The vast majority of the time, this is due to a vacuum leak.

When does LTFT go down after body repair?
MY LTFT is still a bit high after fixing a thotle body leak (14.6) when at idle, however it goes down when the vehicle is being driven (9-11). I know it takes awhile to even out after a repair but why is that my LTFT changes as I drive i thought that this value was suppse to remain steady and only change slowly.
