Why is my Raspberry Pi not using DHCP?

Why is my Raspberry Pi not using DHCP?

Just as an exercise, I flashed the latest Jessie on a new SD card, and it also does not get an IP for the WiFi. So, I am at a loss to why it appears that my WiFi can’t connect using DHCP but it does with static IP. Any tips of where to look would be appreciated.

How to set static IP in dhcpd.conf?

(Static IP is an old habit from decades ago, but I have learned my lesson.) To set a static IP, I added the static IP information to dhcpd.conf: Now, here’s my question. if I take those lines out of dhcpcd.conf and wpa_supplicant.conf then reboot, eth0 does get an IP address via DHCP (from my router), but not wlan0 (on a Pi3 running Stretch).

Why do I need static IP for Raspberry Pi?

It is unclear WHY you want to set Eth0 > static IP or why you are trying to set a gateway address for this interface. There is no point being coy about x.y.z we don’t know what you have done. Thanks for contributing an answer to Raspberry Pi Stack Exchange!

Can a pi connect to WiFi with DHCP?

But now the pi doesn’t connect to the Wifi anymore and I cannot connect to the ethernetport as this is a completely different subnet 🙂 So in the end I want to have the following: Wlan0 > DHCP, with auto connect with credentials from wpa_supplicant.conf

How can I force Raspberry Pi to use static IP?

We will force the Pi to use a static IP by making modifications to the Raspberry Pi’s DHCP client daemon. This software controls the way the operating system handles IP addresses. By Modifying the DHCPCD config file, we can tell the software the local IP address that it should use when connecting to a network.

Can a Raspberry Pi connect to a DNS server?

A DNS server might seem even more improbable, because you have most likely gotten by just fine until now without using a Raspberry Pi for name resolution, but this little exercise in network configuration shows the Pi at its best: a versatile tool that lets you experiment and explore without a lot of complication or risk.
