Another Imaging device had been taking over the Scanner, my main suspect was an HP printer with scan function, once I had disabled the drivers for the other imaging units (that were not needed) it started working perfectly again. I appreciate the responses. So to be clear, solution was Device Manager>imaging devices>disable all other devices

Fujitsu has a firmware and software update tool as well that is normally installed when you load the software. I believe its called “ScanSnap Online Update”. Have you run the tool to make sure the scanner firmware and the software is up to date?

Which is better snap scan or Fujitsu snap scan?
We have several Fujitsu scanners and had simular issues. We started using Paper Stream instead and it works better than Snap Scan for us. But also check the sleep time like Da_Schmoo said. It needs to be awake before you hit scan or it will have issues.
