Why is my Schrader valve leaking?
The Schrader valve can become leaky when debris gets stuck in it, or when the rubber o-ring deteriorates. It used to be that to swap out the valve with a new one required removing all the existing refrigerant in the system (pumping it down) first.

Why is my Schrader valve leaking on the high side?
I’m pretty sure this valve is leaking because the leak detector beeps when it’s near it and there is leak detector dye down in the well where this valve is. So I don’t think penetrating oil is going to help anything. Do I have to replace the hose assembly that contains the valve to do it?

Why is there a cap on the Shrader valve?
The cap is there to keep dirt & crud out of the Shrader valve. The plastic threads on those caps aren’t enough to hold more than a few pounds of pressure, and there’s no way to get Teflon plumber’s tape on those threads.

It sounds to me like you need a better Schrader valve core removal tool. It’s going to cost a few more denaro, but will take out the core without shearing off the little nibs. If they are built right, the metal will withstand the torque and the outside of the valve (the brass part you thread the core into) will help support it.
