Why use pushd instead of cd?
Now if I want to go back to GOJEK folder then I have to use cd command with full path. pushd command is used to save the current directory into a stack and move to a new directory. popd can be used to return back to the previous directory that is on top of the stack.
When to use pushd?
Just use pushd command to change to any directory in the stack and move back to your previous working directory using popd command. Also, you can use dirs command to show the current directory stack at any time. You can add a series of paths onto your stack and then navigate to them in the reverse order.
What does popd do?
The popd command changes the current directory to the directory that was most recently stored by the pushd command. The process repeats every time you use the pushd command. If you use the popd command, the directory on the top of the stack is removed and the current directory is changed to that directory.
How does pushd popd work?
Overview. The pushd command saves the current working directory in memory so it can be returned to at any time, pushd moves to the parent directory. The popd command returns to the path at the top of the directory stack. The syntax for pushing and popping directories is essentially the same as that used now.
What’s the difference between PUSHD, POPD and CD in zsh?
It seems in zsh cd, cd- behaves exactly the same as pushd/popd (which adds/pops directory automatically when cd) while in bash cd doesn’t affect the dir stack. If someone can give me a pointer that would be great.
Is there a way to push CD to the stack?
If someone can give me a pointer that would be great. It depends. In zsh you can configure cd to push the old directory on the directory stack automatically, but it is not the default setting. replace top element of the directory stack (as shown by dirs) with somedir (the number of elements on the stack does not change).
What’s the difference between zsh and pushd stack?
Also in both shells, the directory stack element with the index 1 refers to the directory which was current before the last pushd. That is because arrays in zsh are usually numbered from 1, while they are numbered from 0 in bash. So there is little practical difference
How do I use pushd and popd commands?

Meaning, you can have several working folders at your disposal during work. See a simple example below. First, let’s create example folder structure.
