Will solder carry current?
Soldering is especially useful for electronics because not only does it create a strong physical connection between metals, but it also creates an excellent conductive path for electric current to flow from one conductor to another. This is because the solder itself is an excellent conductor.
How many pounds can solder hold?
A soldered four-inch Type L joint has a pressure rating of 440 psi. If the plumber in the field decides to braze that joint rather than solder it, the rating will be reduced to 293 psi — the annealed rating.
How much current can perf handle?

“Modern” soldering won’t do. In mains wiring a lot of engineering is done to assure we’re not wasting copper. Wires are intended to heat up, and are generally run at sane thermal limits. Solder only has about 1/10 the conductivity of copper.
Does solder affect resistance?
Tin (the main component of most solder) has about 5 times the resistance of copper. The resistance creates heat at the joint, which melts the solder, which increases the resistance until it fails altogether.
How can you tell which solder joint is cold?
Cold solder joints can be detected by visual checking or using a magnifying glass. Primarily, a cold solder joint could look dull, whitish, and convex, or deformed, which is very different from a proper solder joint. Another way to detect a cold solder joint is by using a Multimeter.
Is silver solder stronger than regular solder?
Some hardware stores carry silver solder, but usually the low-temperature type, with a tensile strength around 10,000 psi. The really strong silver solders – tensile strength over 60,000 psi – are a little harder to find.
