Is SystemVerilog synthesizable?
There is a common misconception that “Verilog” is a hardware modeling language that is synthesizable, and “SystemVerilog” is a verification language that is not synthesizable. That is completely false!
Are strings synthesizable in Verilog?
Verilog HDL is one of the two most common Hardware Description Languages (HDL) used by integrated circuit (IC) designers. More recently Verilog is used as an input for synthesis programs which will generate a gate-level description (a netlist) for the circuit. Some Verilog constructs are not synthesizable.
Is Verilog repeat synthesizable?
Repeat Loops can be used synthesizable code, but be careful with them!. They should only be used to expand replicated code. More often, repeat loops are used in testbenches. Note that the Jump Statements return and break can be used to exit your loop prematurely, but these are only supported in SystemVerilog.
Is there an official standard for System Verilog synthesis?
It should be noted that there is no official System Verilog synthesis standard. The IEEE chose not to update the 1364.1 Verilog synthesis standard to reflect the many synthesizable extensions that were added with SystemVerilog. The authors feel that this is short-sighted and is a diss ervice to the engineering community,
What is the length of a SystemVerilog string?
SystemVerilog Strings. What is a SystemVerilog string ? The string data-type is an ordered collection of characters. The length of a string variable is the number of characters in the collection which can have dynamic length and vary during the course of a simulation.
What kind of method notation does SystemVerilog use?
SystemVerilog also includes a number of special methods to work with strings, which use built-in method notation.
When do you truncate a string in SystemVerilog?
No truncation occurs when using the string variable. variable_name is a valid identifier and the optional initial_value can be a string literal, the value “” for an empty string, or a string data type expression. If an initial value is not specified at the time of declaration, then the variable defaults to “”, an empty string literal.
