What is PFC in power electronics?
A power factor correction (PFC) circuit reduces the harmonic distortion in the supply current and creates a current waveform close to a fundamental sine wave in order to increase the power factor to unity (1).
What is a PFC inductor?
A PFC inductor is nothing but an ordinary inductor attached in a circuit for the purpose of adjusting the power factor value to obtain high efficiency and proper power transfer. So the working principle of PFC inductor is the same as the ordinary inductor.
Why is Pfc needed?
Power factor correction (PFC) aims to improve power factor, and therefore power quality. It reduces the load on the electrical distribution system, increases energy efficiency and reduces electricity costs. It also decreases the likelihood of instability and failure of equipment.
What does Pfc sine wave mean?
Active Power Factor Correction
When on battery power, higher-end workstations and computer systems that incorporate Active Power Factor Correction (PFC) power supplies may unexpectedly shut down or crash entirely when used with a simulated sine wave UPS.
When does the critical conduction mode turn on?
The critical conduction mode operates at the boundary of CCM and DCM. It is a control strategy in which the active switch turns on when the inductor current falls into zero point to remove the freewheeling diode reverse recovery. Please see Figure 4.
How does power factor correction ( PFC ) with XMC work?
Power Factor Correction (PFC) with XMC™ Key features Target Application › Server Power Supply › Telecom Power Supply Key Features › Continuous Conduction Mode scheme with XMC4200 & XMC1300 › Average Current Mode Control –Pure digital control: Discrete control loops › Fixed frequency, adjustable depending on input lines
What is critical conduction mode in DCM and CCM?
Critical Conduction mode is also called as Transitional mode or Borderline or Boundary Conduction Mode (BCM). The critical conduction mode operates at the boundary of CCM and DCM. It is a control strategy in which the active switch turns on when the inductor current falls into zero point to remove the freewheeling diode reverse recovery.
How is a PFC used in a dcconverter?
–Rectifier(diode bridge or active rectifiers) rectifies the AC signal into high voltage DC –PFC ensures a good current shape (PF close or equal to 1) to maximize active power. Commonly a PFC Booststage –DC-DCconverter reduces the high voltage. In many cases isolates electrically the power supply into primary and secondary.
